US Stocks surge at the open as Trump's weekend pause on Iran airstrikes sends oil tumbling more than 7% and reignites a broad risk-on rally, with the Magnificent Seven attempting their biggest single-week recovery since April as Meta, Microsoft, Apple, and Amazon all report this week alongside Wednesday's Fed decision.

  • Dow Jones futures surged 555 points or 1.07% to 52,680, S&P 500 futures gained 1.01% to 7,522, and Nasdaq-100 futures soared 1.65% to 28,748 heading into Monday's open — the strongest premarket setup since the Iran deal announcement in mid-June. Polymarket's "S&P 500 up or down" contract reflected an 88% probability of a higher open as of early morning, up 38 percentage points from Friday's implied odds.
  • Trump suspended US airstrikes on Iran over the weekend after 13 consecutive nights of bombing, citing the need to evaluate depleted munitions stocks and allow space for diplomatic negotiations. A senior Iranian official confirmed to Reuters that Tehran would also halt its retaliatory strikes under an "attack for attack" framework as long as the US pause holds. Iran-backed Houthi militants in Yemen separately claimed attacks on vessels in the Red Sea even as the main US-Iran exchange went quiet, keeping some residual supply risk in play.
  • Brent crude fell as much as 7% to below $89 a barrel — its biggest single-day drop since late June — while WTI crude dropped to roughly $83 per barrel, shedding the Iran war premium that had been building since last week's two-chokepoint shock. Airlines, transports, and consumer discretionary names surged in premarket on the oil pullback, while energy stocks fell sharply. The move reverses roughly half of oil's 30% monthly gain through July 24 — Brent's third-largest monthly gain in a decade.
  • The week's earnings calendar is the heaviest of the summer for mega-cap tech. Meta Platforms (META) and Microsoft (MSFT) both report after Wednesday's close — the same day as the Fed — while Apple (AAPL) and Amazon (AMZN) report Thursday. Visa (V), Exxon Mobil (XOM), Starbucks (SBUX), Ford (F), and PayPal (PYPL) are also on the slate. AMD surged 3% in premarket after its Analyst Day last week unveiled large-scale partnerships with Anthropic and OpenAI, new data center products, and an AI accelerator market forecast of $1.4 trillion by 2030.
  • Nvidia (NVDA) is in talks with OpenAI to guarantee $250 billion in financing for a new AI data center project — one of the largest AI computing hubs ever proposed — that would involve power infrastructure controlled by the US government, the Wall Street Journal reported. Nvidia separately announced the formation of the Open Secure AI Alliance alongside founding members including Adobe, CrowdStrike, and Hugging Face, designed to develop and share tools for AI safety and cybersecurity following the Hugging Face autonomous AI agent incident that drew scrutiny last week.
  • Wednesday's Federal Reserve meeting is the second dominant theme of the week alongside earnings. The consensus view is that the Fed will hold rates at the July 29 meeting before hiking in September, but CME FedWatch showed markets pricing a 35% probability of a hike as soon as this week — a level that will be acutely sensitive to Tuesday's Consumer Confidence data and Wednesday's GDP print ahead of the 2:00 p.m. ET announcement. The 10-year Treasury yield held at 4.64% and the 2-year at 4.30%.
  • Microchip Technology (MCHP) rose 2.24% in premarket after announcing it has signed an agreement to acquire AI chip startup Hailo. Durable goods orders for June rose $1.1 billion or 0.3% to $334.8 billion, reversing May's sharp 4.0% decline and offering an early positive read on industrial demand heading into Q3. Celestica (CLS) was 2.53% higher as analysts expected quarterly EPS of $2.30 on revenue of $4.39 billion. Nucor (NUE) gained 1.37% ahead of its earnings report.
  • Asian markets rebounded broadly Monday on the Iran strike pause, though gains were measured given the fresh Trump tariffs on 60 trading partners that took effect Friday. Japan's Nikkei 225 gained 320 points to 64,931, recouping a portion of last week's 3.1% decline. The Shanghai Composite rose 44 points to 3,858 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng advanced 243 points to 25,207 as Chinese tech names benefited from the oil-driven risk recovery. South Korea's KOSPI opened cautiously higher following its brutal 5.8–5.9% crash on Friday, with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both attempting to stabilize. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was modestly higher. The dollar eased broadly as oil's decline reduced inflation expectations and trimmed Fed hike premium.
