US Stocks open split as the Dow climbs on Coca-Cola's beat while the Nasdaq falls under renewed chip pressure — the KOSPI's historic 10.84% single-session crash and the Nikkei's 2,566-point plunge overnight have deepened the semiconductor selloff to its worst month since 2022, even as Apple briefly crossed $5 trillion in market cap on Tuesday and the most critical 48 hours of earnings and Fed policy this year begin today.

  • Dow Jones futures rose 115 points or 0.22% to 52,497 in premarket, while S&P 500 futures slipped 0.17% to 7,435 and Nasdaq-100 futures dropped 0.97% to 27,915, reflecting the bifurcation between consumer staples strength and technology sector pain. Tuesday's full session saw the Dow rise 537.24 points or 1.03% to 52,747.32 — its third straight daily gain — while the S&P 500 added a modest 0.21% to 7,428.78 and the Nasdaq Composite edged down 0.22% to 24,876.91 as chip losses offset gains elsewhere.
  • Apple (AAPL) briefly hit a $5 trillion market capitalization for the first time on Tuesday — a day after surpassing Nvidia to become the world's most valuable publicly traded company — as investor confidence in the company's AI monetization roadmap through Apple Intelligence offset macro volatility. Apple reports after Thursday's close. The broader Magnificent Seven cohort remains under pressure: the Roundhill MAGS ETF is down significantly from its June highs, with Intel down 34% month-to-date, Marvell down 36%, SanDisk down 43%, Micron down 22%, and Western Digital down 22% in July alone.
  • Coca-Cola (KO) surged 3% in premarket after posting Q2 adjusted EPS of $0.89, beating the $0.85 estimate, on organic revenue growth of 6% — its strongest quarter in two years — and raising full-year guidance. The result was read as a positive consumer health signal and drove broad consumer staples outperformance. Boeing (BA), UPS, and Corning also report today. The US goods trade deficit narrowed to $101.5 billion in June from a 14-month high of $105.9 billion in May, and wholesale inventories rose 0.3% month-on-month to $945.9 billion in line with estimates. Consumer confidence data is due at 10:00 a.m. ET.
  • Meta Platforms (META) and Microsoft (MSFT) both report after Wednesday's close — the same night as the Fed announcement — in what Investrade called "the most consequential 48 hours of the earnings season." Meta previously projected Q2 revenue of $58–$61 billion while the scale of its AI capex has already become the market's central anxiety. Microsoft is expected to show Azure cloud revenue growth of roughly 35% year-on-year. Both companies face the same dynamic Alphabet did last week: strong underlying results could still be punished if capex guidance rises further. Apple and Amazon report Thursday night.
  • The Federal Reserve announces its rate decision at 2:00 p.m. ET Wednesday followed by Kevin Warsh's press conference. CME FedWatch showed a 68.5% probability the Fed holds at 3.50%–3.75% for the fifth straight meeting, with markets pricing the first hike for September. However, the renewed Iran strikes that broke out Monday — Trump warned he could resume attacks if diplomacy fails — and oil's subsequent bounce back toward $88 for Brent have kept inflation risk alive heading into the meeting. Q2 GDP and core PCE inflation both print at 8:30 a.m. ET Thursday.
  • Bitcoin (BTC) fell 2.36% to $63,487 in premarket as the Senate's Clarity Act crypto market structure bill hit floor scheduling obstacles, stalling what had been expected to be landmark crypto legislation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the White House Tuesday for talks with Trump as Kyiv sought to shore up US support, with growing links between the Russia-Ukraine and US-Iran conflicts drawing attention on Capitol Hill. Mercedes-Benz lowered its full-year guidance, citing intense competition and subdued consumer sentiment in China with total car sales down 8%.
  • South Korea's KOSPI collapsed 10.84% to close at 6,023.66 — its worst single-day decline since the 2008 global financial crisis — triggering its ninth circuit breaker of 2026 after the index fell more than 8% intraday, halting trading for 20 minutes. Samsung Electronics plunged 13.4% and SK Hynix lost more than 14.7%. The KOSPI is now down 36% from its June peak — a bear market by any measure — though it remains up approximately 37% year-to-date from January 2 levels. The Kosdaq fell 4.98% to 678.68.
  • Japan's Nikkei 225 tumbled 2,566 points or 3.95% to close at 62,364.92, its lowest level in more than six weeks, as SoftBank Group fell 4.43% and Advantest dropped over 10%. A 6.2 magnitude earthquake near Toyota's Fukuoka production facility prompted the automaker to suspend plant operations, adding to domestic economic headwinds. Taiwan's TAIEX skidded 3.9%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng edged up 0.33–0.41% to close near 25,310, bucking the regional trend. China's Shanghai Composite fell 1%–1.16% to around 3,813–3,820. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 bucked the selloff entirely, gaining 0.60% to 8,947.80. India's BSE Sensex slipped 0.09% and the Nifty 50 was little changed. Gold fell 0.80% to $4,044.20 and silver dropped 2.15% to $57.46 as the dollar firmed slightly.
